"Hi Steven, I totally missed this photo before commenting back on the house photo I posted.  The house pictured above is definitely the one that burnt down, which of course is such a shame."

Sunnycroft Bungalow Colony - Part 1

"Manny, just watched your video and I love that between my last year there and when your film was shot, virtually nothing had changed!  Love that the masquerade party still had the parade across the property.  Was that Moe I saw sitting at…"

Steve,

Welcome to Bungalow Colony People - currently a sleepy little community that I created to collect and exchange stories of peoples bungalow colony memories.

If you have any memories or photos you'd like to share, we'd love for you to post them. Your time at Sunnycroft preceded ours so our families wouldn't have know each other but it's possible we know some of the same people - did the Moe & Estelle Spivak own the place when you went there?

Happy Holidays and welcome aboard!

best,

Manny Kivowitz

Hi Manny,

Thanks for the welcome!  I'll be posting pix and a video in just a few minutes.  Moe and Estelle were the owners during our time at Sunnycroft.  Moe was the sweetest guy in the world.  My older brother and I took our then-girlfriends up to Sunnycroft in the autumn of 1977 -- we hadn't been there in 12 years.  We were walking around the upper level near the Main House, about to head down to the casino, when Moe started coming up from his house.  He started telling us we shouldn't be there, but when he got about 10 feet away from us, he stopped short...stared...and realized who we were.  The three of us nearly had tears in his eyes as we shook hands and talked about our time there.  I've been back a few times over the years, which you'll see in the photos.  I loved that place then and still love it to this day.

Steve, I went there for about 8 years from '68 to '75 and Moe and Estelle owned it for maybe three more years after that when they finally caved and sold to the Hasidic community. Those summers were, without a doubt, some of the best of my life.  Moe & Estelle were always a great part of the community and yes, that's them poolside in the video I posted.  They retired to Florida and chose to check out on New Years Eve 2003, both were suffering from various ailments.

Steven I just looked at the pictures you posted of what was left of Sunny Croft when you went to visit. They made me cry. It was really sad to see what became of a place that meant so much to so many of us. I am glad you captured what could have been the very last photo ever taken of the main building before it burnt down. The empty pool really got to me too. Was the casino still there when you went?  I am going to share your pictures with my cousin Jill and her family. I think Jill may be in one of your camp photo pics. She is the little girl with dark hair and two pony tails. I am pretty sure that's her. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
