I was searching the web and punched in Sunnycroft Bungalow Colony and found this site. Manny, how old were you in the Summer of 1969? I was a Junior Counselor that Summer. My brother's name is Paul. He was twelve years old at the time. It's odd finding this site. Sunnycroft was a lot of great times getting out of Flushing for the Summer. Have you heard from other people?

    Hi Manny,

Thanks for responding to my posting. It's true, we would not have crossed paths, having missed each other at Sunnycroft by quite a few years. Still, there's a certain intangible kinship between people who hold similar fond memories of a specific place.

Hey, I came across this comment thread on Facebook, between two guys who remember Sunnycroft. Perhaps you can connect with them as well:

I'll continue to visit your site from time to time, as one never knows who may pop up from out of the blue. We can't be the only Sunnycroft dreamers out there!

    Take care until next time...

    Hi Manny,

Yes I knew George well , he and my cousin Jill were girlfriend and boyfriend. I was in the main building, in a few different units over the years. George,Jill and I were the kings and queen of color war. I helped write most of the  team songs. There is a sunnycroft group on facebook too,, I would love to see that video when you get it posted.

Manny please please please with a cherry on top.. can you post part two of your video. I spoke with Sally Turner today.. she is Ivy and Lonnie's mom. I sent her a link to the first video. I do not know if you remember them but I am pretty sure George would and your mom.

  • Paul Braun

Hello Manny,  I am not sure what possessed me to search for Sunnycroft the other day but it did bring back memories when I saw the names an comments. I was also surprised to see that my brother Artie had posted as I do not recall him mentioning it to me.  I was friends with Alan Honig and Alan Eisman and knew Gail.  I have been back to the property a couple of times over the years as we have family not too far away.  The last time I was there you could still see big sheets of plywood painted for color war lying around.   I saw the video on YouTube and that brought back quite a few memories like the Bagel/Donut van, pinball repair guy and trips to Three Bears ice cream.

    Regards,  Paul

Do you know of anyone who remembers the Fialkoff's Bungalow Colony?  It was on a main road and when you got to it, on the corner was it's luncheonette, first thing, on left side of road when you entered colony.  I was a mother's helper for my cousin's children.  It was an incredible summer!

  • Jodi Turchin

I don't recall you Manny. But I certainly know Alan Honig. I recognize many names here. It was so great to watch the video. I recognized my brother Bob in the video at about 2:23. He was 15 at the time. What memories! Color war was the best. And the moms in their one piece swimsuits and beehive hairdos. I have several camp photos I will scan and upload when I get some time.

  • Jeff Greenspan

Hi Manny its Mike D. Found your little experiment looking for Hillside and came across the next best thing. Hope you and everyone on the sight enjoy the photos. Those were some good times and great memories and I could not let them go to waste in a keepsake box. If you can crop those photos a little better go right ahead, don't no what I did wrong.

  • Mike D

Manny knew them all including koop but forty years later most of the names have left the memory bank but the faces never have.I'll try to remember some and point out have a good night

  • Mike D

Manny  Mike D Send you a message should have send a comment. In the 1975 staff photo that's me standing on the right. Koop is 2nd in from right top row to his left is Robin. Next to her is Wick next to wick don't know her name but did have her brothers as campers there names were Chatam and Adam. Girl directly in front of her in 2nd row I believe her name is Elise and directly in front of her in 1st row is Aileen. after that nothing for now and last names forget about it clueless.

  • Manny

Thanks Mike! Super helpful to have any info you can remember. This site is all about preserving as much as possible about the bungalow colony experience, every bit helps.

  • Mike D

Manny saw you left a message for the Rock in 2009 about softball. Some of the other colonies were Hillside of course. Pinegrove, Colonial Villa, Tel Aviv and a few more but that's all I got.

  • Manny

Hey Mike, thanks for the info.  I don't remember Colonial Villa but I remember PineGrove and Tel Aviv... some of the others I remember were Lebanon, Blueberry Hill and Rosmarin's (which is still there!).

  • Mike D

colonial villa was the colony right between hillside and Tel Aviv on that long stretch of road. Then you would make the left at Tel Aviv heading towards I believe Lebanon. Before Lebanon there was another colony. cant remember its name but it was one of the first to go under. Remember going through the bungalows and climbing on the roofs with my friends. I Think it was 1972 or 73.

  • Mike D

The second colony to go was right by Sunnycroft cant remember its name. But when I used to come to work I'd would make a right at the Woodberry movie theatre . Remember that place? You were a little younger but I think anyone in the area saw Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory there.I Saw the God Farther there to. Then up the road I'd make a left towards Sunnycroft that colony was right before the left turn it was the beginning of the end, they all slowly started dying off after that.
